On the scene at Pinkapalooza with Fall Out Boy

Last week, we put the ever so stylish FOE reporter hat on our girl Crystal Lee of CashDolla Industries.  Mizz. Lee went and hung out at the Santa Monica Pier for the day to cover FOB’s performance at Victoria Secret’s Pinkapalooza. This is what she had to say :

Fall Out Boy Goes Pink
Written by Crystal Lee

(big ups to Ashley Jean for editing the story)

A known landmark and tourist attraction in California, the Santa Monica Pier, took on a new color as it hosted Victoria Secrets Pinkapalooza on Thursday July 17th, 2008. Held by VS’ newest model Bahati Prinsloo for the launch of Victoria Secrets Pink Collegiate Collection, the pier was decked out in logos and, you guessed it, the color pink. Rides from bumper cars to the fair-sized Ferris wheel was also decorated in Pink’s infamous logo—the signature Pink dog. Festivities began around 5pm where only the first 3,000 people could expect a pink sparkling wrist band to earn them free rides and games throughout the day until 11pm. But fans who were anticipating the event’s special performance by Chicago based band, Fall Out Boy, began lining up 6 hours earlier in hopes to get the coveted barricade spot. As fans waited in a crowd all day in front of the stage, other guests took advantage of the activities Pinkapalooza had to offer. What would a launch be without so much as displaying the items Pink had to offer? Not only was the clothing displayed, but it was also available for purchase. Guests were invited to buy the Collegiate line via the back of a Pink’s RV. As the summer’s hottest tracks were spun by Danny Masterston (a.k.a. DJ Momjeans), guests competed in USC vs. UCLA rivalry games.

The main event/performance began around 9pm as Fall Out Boy took the stage the size of Vans Warped Tour main stage. Dressed in digital screens, heavy lighting—F.O.B played an array of singles for excited fans, including: “Sugar We’re Going Down”, “Dance, Dance”, “Thnks fr th mmrs”, as well as their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” and a 3 song medley which mixed artists like Akon, R. Kelly and Sonny & Cher. Although the set lasted for the span of 45 minutes, fans were long past due for a live performance. With Fall Out Boy’s latest gigs in early Spring, it was no wonder why so many people were amped, camera ready and trying their hardest to get as close to the stage as physically possible. As always, F.O.B surprised fans as bassist Pete Wentz brought out Decaydance records newest signed artist, Tyga to the stage to freestyle in the beginning of “Take Over, the Break’s Over.” No Fall Out Boy show would be complete without the signature moves of Wentz (the electric chair), or the notorious stripping of the hoodie as he stage dives into the crowd to scream along to the ever famous “Saturday.”  Despite the show ended at approximately 10pm—fans and all guests took advantage of pier lighting to roam around the coast and ride until they felt sick, or until 11 o’clock marked the end of a very Pink day.

Pete Wentz Sam Ash Review/FTK Contest!

Yesterday October 9th 2007 Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy held his meet & greet at Sam Ash on Sunset in Hollywood California for the launch of his Fender Bass. Well everything wasn't so sunny on the set. The poster star bassist was feeling sick that afternoon and still went through with the event, a good call considering the line of fans down and around the corner of the building. Around 5:15 kid after kid in groups of 30 came in and got close to Wentz, taking pictures and exchanging hugs. Some of the fans had the Fender Bass and one lucky fan won a bass from a contest they also had held that afternoon. But apparently from FOB message boards, MySpace posts and word of mouth, some kids came back caring his little bug and are feeling the aftermath today. For some of these fans there probably pretty stoked they caught the (PTD) Pete transmitted disease.(hahaha) For others its soup and rest for them. Wentz was all smiles most of the time and met every fan in line. The security was low and fans were even allowed to stay inside and take photos. Some fans waited out back as Wentz headed to the car to get another glimpse, say goodbye, and thank him. The event overall went well and it looked like everyone left with a smile. -Crystal Lee, CashDolla Industries

you're in front of me.

im holding my breath.

ill beat you to it before you even feel it.

and then you'll never know.

its how i work you into my misery.

you'll forget this before i say bye.

im below your radar.

but you're on mine.

ill keep coming back and you'll keep getting distracted.

so read my lips when im sleeping

or stay in the dark

this is as close as ill get to our truth.

thinking of you on my pillow.

July 24, 2007

my mouth is dry...

Hallelujah can be a strong word.

It can be stamped on the end of any feeling or mood.

Like a stamp on a postcard off to the next person.

It’s a word that doesn’t need a period or exclamation point.

Many uses it in victory but then many can turn it around into a smile of relief, of loss ending suffering

It’s over hallelujah.

Many can use it in love.

Like water in the desert.

I have you. Hallelujah.

Many use it in the house of god.

Rejoice in hallelujah.

Is your hallelujah a relief or victory?

Is it want or need?

Love or faith?

My hallelujah was the breath off your lips. I guess at that time I fell into the love category.

Now i'm filled in relief. Its over. I’m trying to move on.

Hallelujah

A Thought Or 2

Love.

I recently watched “City Of Angels”.

After falling from immortality and becoming human to be together then having the one you fell for die.

Do you kill your self cause you can’t bare to live with out that one and do you think that ending your life shows the intensity of your love for that person?

Or do you live on retracing there last moments as you become depressed. And then try to find love else where when really after falling from your immortality you know nothing else?

June 5, 2007

you had it coming.

I could give up on this home.
I rearrange the furniture paint the walls change the sheets, its lying to my self.
Put up the new.
Cover up the cover up. Until it fades off.
Build my self into a corner.
Stack stairs to this dead end.
Continue the Winchester house mystery.
I took a night off.
Found a new love in a heavy lit city.
Light to light twingeling mirage.
New dance floor.
New beat.
New friends.
I can’t keep my self away.
Like when I couldn’t keep away from you.
Or how u can’t keep away from twisiting that lid off the blue.
You could of just said it again and mean't it.
They mean it and don’t even need to say it.
Your excuse?
Its ok ill keep the secret.
But it’s against you.
Swallow let it digest the "you" holding back.
They told me ive been gone for to long.
When you say that, ill be the one feeling bad for you.
Ill be here with the voices I found under these palm trees, or dancing in sin city.
Its time to drop this sick broken beat from this on going heart attack.
I've been along these lines before.
"But that’s what you get when you let your heart win"

I can’t say I don’t love you
But I can say i'm trying.

they got my attention now. ox

sheer future

Burn it through your eyes sweat the oh no off baby.

Perspire through your thin cotton

Karma has it coming

Straight to you

Straight through you.

Kiss down her lashes

She don’t deserve this

Do you?

Live in the mirror and shatter with it.

Clean your hands off

Or stay red handed.

Although you look good in red.

Blood shot anti depression intake.

Take it or break it.

I broke it.

April 18, 2007

oh honey, honey

I can rest on memories.

Yours.

And emailed favors.

I like starting my day knowing plan B is you.

Even though I hate asking.

The lights in between the seconds are the beats in-between breaths.

Never falling to short of my breath.

A favor for a smile, a smile for a promise.

And you keep them.

I want to evaporate the rain drops you left falling

Creating patterns in the cracks of concrete past mistakes.

Get past the past, drop down the curtain on regret.

I want to, I want to just break the lights fading this out.

Forgive me for my greed, but its just you.

But I never had the words just to get in.

“Maybe it's all for the best
So darling don't lose any sleep over me
Maybe maybe if I could see you now (oh ohhh)
I'll find a way to sing somehow
Something to make you stay so wide awake somehow
Maybe maybe if I don't see you now
I'll keep myself shattered somehow
Oh in every way, every way somehow”

And even though I have my greed

Id rather have you over seas

Living the life that’s laid out for you.

My friends say I’m wasting my words.

You put them at a hush when lust passed the red velvet.

Devotion is another word for promise

I could never afford to give up on the up.

Or down on your down.

The struggle came with a deck of cards

Fates been good to me.

I wish I knew how you keep your self lost

Lost in the spot light.

But found when the sky came crashing down.

You got you on lock.

And swallowed the key.

Ill stay pressed against the keyhole

Or angeld in the bottom corner of your heart.

The beats remind me of the concert hall.

Is it hoped that keeps you alive?

Cause you’re my hope that keeps me alive.

I trust you.

All I got going for me is the glare off the honey

Dripping down my throat.

Hey sugar, lift those lashes.

Kids, Pete Wentz, and me in-between

So I attended the AOL live show with Fall Out Boy. And I think Mr. Wentz basically broke the right wheel to my wheelchair.

I was sitting on his side as always and during the song “Saturday” Pete threw his bass to Dan and then goes and screams in the crowed. Well this time he came directly on my side over me and as exciting as it was…The Roxy theatre put up this really lame barricade that started separating even before FOB hit the stage. Well when Pete was on it with the force of the crowed pushing in toward him it gave out and his foot hit my wheel hard I was pushed into his left thigh (which was exciting) and my wheelchair was balancing on 1 wheel so with the crowed and his foot slamming down on it my wheel bent in to places. His bass tech (who is amazing I love her) was even trying to hold us. I’m stubborn so its kind of my fault for being in the front row but other then this 1 time at this FOB show in Oct 2005 when I got pushed backward wheels in the air the shows haven’t been that intense.

Anyways my mom took my wheel to a bike shop for them to reshape and the guy at the counter looked at it like wtf how in the hell. It was unfixable he tried to straighten it as best he could and now when it rolls it bumps haha how lovely. At least I didn’t get hurt.My friend Ashley did her foot was under the wheel and her hand was in-between the barricade and a tour case.

Intense but amazing.

FOE Tour Review CashDolla Ind.

Jan 5th 2006-

The crowded dark arena is filled with dim balls of light suppose to be stars in the sky, awaiting the entrance of their favorite band Fall Out Boy to run on stage and sing songs of melodies and dance filled numbers. The song by a band only your parents would remember as the band of there time that they would pay $100 a boot to see perform, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” plays over the loud speakers as the band’s coming on song. Opening with “Our Lawyers Made Us Change the Name of This Song, So We Wouldn’t Get Sued” with such grace and Elegance as a Fred Estaire Movie. Wowing the crowd  throughout the set with angelic vocals and Pete Wentz’s signature Four Marks(Electric Chair move, the jump on and off stage, and licking of the bass) with the second hot single off “From Under The Cork Tree” released in 2005, “Dance, Dance”.

As Patrick Stump, the lead singer’s voice bellows out in the moshing sweaty group of young adults living each day because of a FOB Song, I noticed the amazing artwork in the set onstage. The band’s upcoming album “Infinity on High” (coming out on Feb.6th, 2006), booklet features Tarot card themes featuring sheep with wings, moons and crickets alike all in the midst of the night sky and the bands name was neatly drawn on canvas cloth draped over the bands equipment and featured boxes for the members to stand on during the show. “Fall Out Boy” may just be another class act to Top 40 folks but they to us so called “scenesters” the best band of the whole history of music. The show itself was amazing as usual, although Pete’s bass was a little off it was a sold out show and there wasn’t a ticket to be seen being bought outside of the arena, unless of course you have your tickets flow in from a different state with a special “photo pass” which some of us are not as quite lucky.

One very important thing missing was Fall Out Boy’s beloved mascot “Dirty” a friend and kid at heart that seals the deal of any FOB show. Where he was I have yet to find out, all I know is I missed him as well as the millions other that was there waiting for him to greet us onstage.

Before Fall Out Boy came on there was a couple well known bands (The Early November, and New Found Glory) as well as a up and coming artist under the Stolen Transmission Record Label named Permanent Me. Overall the best performance was of NFG not just because they are a personal favorite but because their stage presence and crowd participation is well above the numbers. Jumping and showing of the bassist’s upper body that wasn’t exactly pleasing but never the less entertaining.

The Early November’s set was more of a low key but hype to the fans that knew them set. The guitarist on the right side (which is where I was located) kept kicking his feet up and making funny faces like Joe Trohman of FOB, which I found quite entertaining.

Lastly, I would like to recognized Permanent Me’s performance which was very crowd pleasing even though no one had heard of them really unless you did your homework before the show prior to their performances. They got a lot of crowd participation and ear opening lyrics to there not yet released album and $5 EP sold at their merch counter.

To end with I must talk about the Fall Out Boy Meet and Greet which is scheduled for all Overcast Kids (that scored a wristband) after each venue performance. As you waited in line, Pete’s bodyguard gave the bassist’s much adored pet “Hemmingway” a walk while getting attention from female admirers petting him and asking for pictures although denied by the bodyguard not much respected by FOB fans. The lucky wristband holders went and got an autograph from the band and went back out the door into the line again to score a picture with the band. All and All everyone was happy and even though it was windy and freezing (why do you think they called the fan club the Overcast Kids it is always drab weather at the shows), concertgoers got what they wanted, A amazing sold out show by the best band in this day in age and new acts that will become promoted by Myspace goers worldwide the next day.
