On the scene at Pinkapalooza with Fall Out Boy

Last week, we put the ever so stylish FOE reporter hat on our girl Crystal Lee of CashDolla Industries.  Mizz. Lee went and hung out at the Santa Monica Pier for the day to cover FOB’s performance at Victoria Secret’s Pinkapalooza. This is what she had to say :

Fall Out Boy Goes Pink

A known landmark and tourist attraction in California, the Santa Monica Pier, took on a new color as it hosted Victoria Secrets Pinkapalooza on Thursday July 17th, 2008. Held by VS’ newest model Bahati Prinsloo for the launch of Victoria Secrets Pink Collegiate Collection, the pier was decked out in logos and, you guessed it, the color pink. Rides from bumper cars to the fair-sized Ferris wheel was also decorated in Pink’s infamous logo—the signature Pink dog. Festivities began around 5pm where only the first 3,000 people could expect a pink sparkling wrist band to earn them free rides and games throughout the day until 11pm. But fans who were anticipating the event’s special performance by Chicago based band, Fall Out Boy, began lining up 6 hours earlier in hopes to get the coveted barricade spot. As fans waited in a crowd all day in front of the stage, other guests took advantage of the activities Pinkapalooza had to offer. What would a launch be without so much as displaying the items Pink had to offer? Not only was the clothing displayed, but it was also available for purchase. Guests were invited to buy the Collegiate line via the back of a Pink’s RV. As the summer’s hottest tracks were spun by Danny Masterston (a.k.a. DJ Momjeans), guests competed in USC vs. UCLA rivalry games.

The main event/performance began around 9pm as Fall Out Boy took the stage the size of Vans Warped Tour main stage. Dressed in digital screens, heavy lighting—F.O.B played an array of singles for excited fans, including: “Sugar We’re Going Down”, “Dance, Dance”, “Thnks fr th mmrs”, as well as their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” and a 3 song medley which mixed artists like Akon, R. Kelly and Sonny & Cher. Although the set lasted for the span of 45 minutes, fans were long past due for a live performance. With Fall Out Boy’s latest gigs in early Spring, it was no wonder why so many people were amped, camera ready and trying their hardest to get as close to the stage as physically possible. As always, F.O.B surprised fans as bassist Pete Wentz brought out Decaydance records newest signed artist, Tyga to the stage to freestyle in the beginning of “Take Over, the Break’s Over.” No Fall Out Boy show would be complete without the signature moves of Wentz (the electric chair), or the notorious stripping of the hoodie as he stage dives into the crowd to scream along to the ever famous “Saturday.”  Despite the show ended at approximately 10pm—fans and all guests took advantage of pier lighting to roam around the coast and ride until they felt sick, or until 11 o’clock marked the end of a very Pink day.

Fantastic article! Well done again, Crystal. I am getting ready for the guys to be back here in Europe in October, they've just announced a show in Amsterdam and several in Germany and I'm going to at least four of them.

Joe Troh's hair gets more awesome each time I see pictures of it.

I'm going to go ahead and call myself out on how irrelevant to the post as a whole my comment is.
